Blog Post #7
This blog post is about a tool from Dr. Wang’s TLC Tools. The technology that I have chosen to write about is ClassDojo, which is an online classroom management and communication platform that helps teachers track behavior, engage families, and support social‑emotional learning. This is another great resource that I think would be very valuable to use in my future classroom.
What is ClassDojo?
ClassDojo is a digital classroom platform that allows teachers to record and track student behavior, communicate with students and families, and share classroom updates like photos and videos on a secure feed. Teachers can customize behavior expectations, award points for positive behaviors, and display student progress. Students can access ClassDojo with a class‑specific code, and parents can see classroom activity and communicate with teachers when invited.
Ease of Use:
ClassDojo is easy to use because it has an intuitive interface designed for teachers, students, and families. Teachers can set up classes and start tracking behaviors or communicating in just a few steps. Students join with simple codes or usernames, and parents can access updates in multiple languages, making it accessible to diverse families. The platform also includes classroom tools such as timers, random student selectors, and group makers to support routines and instruction.
Here is what the website looks like:
Versatility:
ClassDojo is versatile because it supports many aspects of classroom life. Teachers can use it for behavior management, daily routines, sharing student work, parenting communication, and social‑emotional learning activities. Beyond points, it includes tools like noise meters, directions display, and group generators, and it allows teachers to post updates or activities that deepen student engagement.
Overall Likelihood of Using it:
Overall, the likelihood of me using ClassDojo in my classroom is high because it supports positive classroom culture, family engagement, and clear communication. Its flexibility and range of features make it a tool that not only helps with behavior and routines but also strengthens connections between school and home.
How ClassDojo Connects to EDUC 462:
SAMR Model:
ClassDojo fits within the augmentation level by replacing traditional behavior charts and home‑school communication with digital tracking and messaging that offer added functionality like real‑time updates and multimedia posts. It can also reach Modification by enabling digital portfolios and communication that change how students, teachers, and families collaborate.
PICRAT Framework:
ClassDojo places students and families in interactive roles because they can actively engage with classroom updates, view student progress, and participate in communication rather than just passively receiving information. Teachers use technology to amplify learning by increasing engagement and clarity around expectations.
TLC Framework:
ClassDojo supports effective teaching practices by encouraging positive behavior, reflection, and family involvement. It also aligns with learning theories such as behaviorism, through feedback and reinforcement systems, and social learning, as students see models of positive behavior and receive recognition for their choices. The communication features also support a community of learners that extends beyond the classroom.
Hi Arisely! I really liked that you highlighted sections. It made it very clear and easy to read. Also, one thing that stood out to me was your statement on building a community beyond the classroom. It's so important to help students learn that if they need support from their teacher, but it's outside school, they can still always reach out.
