Blog Post #8

This blog post is about a tool from Dr. Wang’s TLC Tools. The technology that I have chosen to write about is Word Art, which is an online word cloud generator that both teachers and students can use to turn lists of words into visually engaging word clouds. This is another great resource that I think would be very valuable to use in my future classroom. I actually used Word Art throughout middle school and really enjoyed it, it made learning vocabulary and key concepts more fun and helped me remember important ideas more easily.

What is Word Art?

Word Art is an online tool that allows users to create customizable word clouds. These visual representations of text show more frequently used words larger than others, making it easy to highlight important ideas or themes. Both teachers and students can use Word Art to summarize lessons, explore vocabulary, or creatively display information in different shapes, fonts, and colors.

Ease of Use:

Word Art is easy to use because the interface is intuitive. Users simply type or paste in a list of words, choose a shape and style, and the website generates a word cloud instantly. Students of all ages can create projects independently, while teachers can quickly make visuals to support lessons. Its simple drag-and-drop design and customization options make it accessible and fun.

Versatility:

Word Art is versatile because it can be used across grade levels and subjects. Teachers can create word clouds for classroom discussions, study guides, or lesson summaries, while students can use it to demonstrate understanding, reflect on reading, or creatively present ideas. Its flexibility in shapes, colors, and layouts makes it adaptable for a wide variety of instructional goals.

Overall Likelihood of Using it:

Overall, the likelihood of me using Word Art in my classroom is high because it’s engaging, easy to use, and promotes both creativity and comprehension. Based on my own experience in middle school, I know that students enjoy using it and benefit from the visual reinforcement of key ideas.

How Word Art Connects to EDUC 462:

SAMR Model:
Word Art fits at the Augmentation level because it takes a traditional activity like listing vocabulary or key concepts and enhances it by creating interactive, visual word clouds that help students see patterns and relationships more clearly.

PICRAT Framework:
Word Art places students in an Interactive role, since they actively choose words, customize designs, and engage with content rather than passively receiving information. Teachers can Amplify learning by using Word Art to make abstract ideas tangible and memorable.

TLC Framework:
Word Art supports effective teaching practices by promoting reflection, creativity, and formative assessment. Students visually represent their understanding, allowing teachers to quickly assess comprehension. It aligns with learning theories such as constructivism, as students build knowledge through creation, and dual coding theory, as combining visuals with text strengthens memory and understanding.

  1. Hi Arisely! I really enjoyed reading your blog post on Word Art. Specifically the introduction when you mention you used the platform throughout middle school, I did too! I also really appreciate how you connected the tool to not just one framework we have learned so far, but three. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this platform!
