Blog Post #11

This blog entry is about a tool in Dr. Wangs TLC Tools . The tool that I have chosen to write about is Khan Academy, which is a technology that offers interactive lessons, practice exercises, and instructional videos.

What is Khan Academy?
Khan Academy is a free online learning platform that offers interactive lessons, practice exercises, and instructional videos across subjects like math, science, history, and more. It allows students to learn at their own pace while giving teachers tools to track progress and support individual needs.

Ease of Use
Khan Academy is very easy to use. Students can sign in, pick a subject, and start lessons or practice problems immediately. Progress is automatically tracked, and the interface is clean and intuitive, making it accessible for learners of all ages without technical hurdles.

Here is what the website looks like:

Versatility
Khan Academy is versatile because it works for multiple learning scenarios: self-paced study, homework support, flipped classrooms, and targeted intervention. It covers a wide range of topics from early math to advanced sciences, as well as test prep for exams like the SAT.

Overall Likelihood of Using It in My Classroom
I would likely use Khan Academy in my classroom because it allows me to differentiate instruction, support students at different levels, and provide extra practice outside of class. Its instant feedback and progress tracking make it a practical tool to integrate into everyday lessons.

Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL)
From an SFL perspective, Khan Academy’s videos and interactive exercises show how language and meaning are constructed in context. The explanations, diagrams, and examples help students understand how language functions in academic discourse and problem-solving.

TPACK
Khan Academy connects to TPACK by integrating content knowledge, pedagogical strategies, and technology. Teachers use the platform to deliver content effectively while leveraging interactive tools and data tracking, creating a learning experience where technology directly supports pedagogy.

LAT Framework
Through the LAT framework, Khan Academy demonstrates how technology enhances learning activities. The platform is not just about the content, it’s the tool that allows students to engage with tasks, practice skills, and receive instant feedback efficiently.
